April is Financial Literacy Month, and the conversations I’m having with families right now all sound very similar.
Most people are working hard. Saving what they can. Trying to do the right thing.
But there’s a gap — not in effort, but in understanding how everything actually works together.
The Part No One Talks About: What Happens After You Save?
We spend years focused on saving for retirement. But retirement isn’t just about a number — it’s about income.
How will you pay yourself every month? How long will that income last? What happens when the market shifts? How much is actually yours after taxes?
Understanding RMDs (Required Minimum Distributions)
At some point, the IRS requires withdrawals from certain retirement accounts. These are taxable and can impact your tax bracket and Social Security.
Accumulation vs. Distribution
Accumulation: Your working years of saving and growing money.
Distribution: When your money must pay you back.
Most people are only taught the first phase.
Your Greatest Asset
Your ability to earn income. Protecting that income during your working years is critical.
